The official start date is April 29, 2026. Similar to previous years, flexible start dates may be available to accommodate athletes finishing their season or returning home at different times.

The program is designed for hockey players ages 8 and up, including U13–U18, Junior, OHL, College, Pro, NHL, and PWHL athletes.

Athletes are grouped based on age and strength level. In some cases, there may be multiple groups within the same age category to ensure appropriate training intensity and athlete development.

Groups are capped at 16 athletes maximum to maintain quality coaching and individual attention.

In the gym, Shield maintains a 1:6 coach-to-athlete ratio, ensuring proper supervision, coaching, and safety.

Yes. Due to program structure and capacity, participation in both on-ice and off-ice training is required. The only exception is for goaltenders, who may have modified participation.

Shield’s on-ice sessions are led by experienced professionals who work with NHL, PWHL, OHL, Junior, and elite-level players, as well as with major hockey organizations.

Each on-ice session has a specific focus throughout the week, such as skill acquisition, tactical gameplay, edge work, or hockey IQ development. This ensures balanced development across all areas of the game.

During May and June, sessions for athletes still in school typically take place after school hours. For athletes not in school, sessions may be scheduled in the morning or afternoon. In July and August, sessions run throughout the day.

Weekend sessions are typically offered only for U8–U12 athletes. Older age groups primarily train during the week.

A 50 percent deposit is required to secure a spot in the program. The remaining balance is due 30 days after the initial deposit or prior to the program start date. Customized payment plans may be available for families with multiple athletes.

Payment can be made by e-transfer or credit card. Credit card payments are subject to a 2.5 percent administration fee. Cash and cheques are not accepted.

Shield’s integrated model allows therapy staff and strength coaches to work closely together. Any injuries must be disclosed prior to starting the program. If an injury limits participation, an assessment with Shield’s therapy team will be arranged to modify training appropriately.

Yes. Due to high demand and limited capacity, spots are limited and fill quickly each year.
